Dr. Khaldoun Khashanah served as a professor of Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering at the School of Business and the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology. With a multidisciplinary background in mathematics, engineering, and finance, he has held academic and leadership positions across various schools within Stevens since 1994. He was the founding director of the Financial Engineering (FE) Division and co-director of the MBA in Financial Engineering programs. An accomplished researcher, Dr. Khashanah has authored over 30 publications, contributed six book chapters, and delivered more than 30 conference presentations at national and international venues. His work spans areas such as quantitative finance, portfolio optimization, stochastic systems, predictive analytics, and algorithmic standards.
His research was supported by grants from the NSF, NASA, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Investor Responsibility Research Center Institute (IRRC Institute), CME Foundation, and Accenture. Research topics spanned wide areas of research in high-frequency finance conference, system of systems taxonomy and elegant design, algorithmic contract type unified standards, quantitative finance education, B2B implementation of digital transformation. His current research involves agentic AI implementation in systems, Hawkes processes, and detection of jumps.
Dr. Khashanah has extensive experience in pedagogy and epistemology for curricular architecture and contextual learning. He taught courses in various disciplines both in person and online. He also introduced new graduate certificate programs, master’s programs, and the first PhD in FE in the US along many new courses in FE with new financial lab component in the curriculum. He has mentored and graduated ten PhDs and advised over 400 master’s and undergraduate students. He helped bridge academic-industry-regulatory relationships through education, innovation, and applied research.
His extensive practical experience includes collaborations on projects with several consulting firms such as Deloitte, Accenture, and Oakleaf. He is also a named inventor on a U.S. patent related to compute-communicate continuum systems. He has served on numerous committees and held several executive positions in Board of Directors and as a CEO.
